SAN SABA, Texas - San Saba ISD has closed due to COVID-19, but starting Friday, March 20, will elevate its status to closed, but in session. No students will be allowed on any district campus or site.
"The goal of the SSISD Team is to ensure our students continue to receive a high-quality education and support to help them be successful while learning from home," the district said in a release. "The major change to our educational environment is having students participate via an online platform/packets instead of face-to-face learning within a classroom."
Teachers and administration have set up lessons, videos and virtual classrooms for students, says San Saba ISD. The district says it will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates and resources on the district's COVID-19 website.
What does this mean for you and your child?
- No students are allowed on campus/district sites until school resumes
- As soon as a return date is established, it will be communicated via Parent Square and posted online
- Communication about assignments and technology will come from teacher(s) and/or principal through Parent Square, Google Classroom, Blackboard, email, etc.
What about breakfast and lunch?
- Meals will still be provided, upon request; for breakfast and lunch, families should contact the cafeteria at 325-372-5083 during normal business hours
- Breakfast can be picked up from 7:20 - 8 a.m. Lunch can be picked up from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
- Lunch is available for any community member ages 0-18
- Breakfast and lunch pick up location will be at the back cafeteria door (across from the band hall/by the big freezer)
- Meals can be delivered upon request during lunch hours only; when lunch is delivered, a cold breakfast for the following day will also be delivered
- For delivery requests, contact the cafeteria during normal business hours
"Please contact your child's principal and/or the administration building with any questions/concerns you have," says the district. "Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation as we work to ensure that the SSISD community stays safe and healthy."

What does the public health disaster entail?
Abbott said the statewide orders are to make sure Texas is following guidance provided by the federal government.
On Thursday, Gov. Greg Abbott issued a public health disaster, the first in Texas since 1901. The executive orders, which take effect at midnight Friday, March 20 and go through midnight on Friday, April 3, will bring the state in line with CDC guidelines to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The public health disaster orders schools to be closed statewide until at least April 3. The disaster also orders a ban on dine-in eating and gathering in groups of more than 10 as the state ramps up efforts to battle the coronavirus. Abbott's order also will shut down gyms and bars.
