AUSTIN, Texas - The Save Austin Schools coalition and community leaders are calling on Austin ISD trustees to reconsider their vote to close four elementary schools and to stop further closures.
The AISD school board voted on Nov. 18 in favor of closing Brooke, Metz, Pease, and Sims elementary schools.
Save Austin Schools says trustees were not able to read AISD's Chief Equity Officer's equity analysis on the proposal prior to casting their vote.
"The trustees were not given enough time for meaningful deliberation of the lasting impact of these closures that will disproportionately hurt historically marginalized communities, children of color and special education elementary students," a release from Save Austin Schools said.
