School bus, semi truck collide in San Marcos
SAN MARCOS, Texas - A San Marcos CISD school bus was involved in a crash with a semi truck on State Highway 21 in San Marcos Monday night. Eleven children from Travis Elementary school, along with the bus driver and a monitor were on board at the time of the accident.
According to a spokesperson with San Marcos CISD, six children were taken by ambulance to the Central Texas Medical Center. A relief bus with an EMS technician on board transported four children and their parents to CTMC, and one child was released to the parents. The bus driver, monitor, and the truck's driver were transported to CTMC.
The accident happened at around 5:13 p.m. near the intersection of Reynaldo Way.
First responders arrived seven minutes after the collision was reported. Texas Department of Public Safety troopers arrived soon and took over as lead investigators of the scene.
We're told Transportation Director Carter Hutson, Assistant Superintendent Karen Griffith, and Travis Elementary Principal Niki Konecki assisted families at the hospital.
Highway 21 was shut down in both directions for several hours after the crash.
