School districts across Central Texas announce suspension of normal operations, school closures due to coronavirus

AUSTIN, Texas - The majority of students are now getting extra time off and possibly won't be going back to school at all for the current school year after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued an executive order that all schools in the state remain closed until May 4. 

Here's a list of the districts with a few details about their shut down and links to information about virtual and distance learning options. The list will be updated if needed.

AUSTIN ISD

The district announced on April 4 that its 129 campus buildings will remain closed "for an indefinite period of time." AISD had canceled classes March 13 and extended its Spring Break already and says the indefinite closure is "part of the district's ongoing efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19."

ROUND ROCK ISD

Round Rock Independent School District officials say they are suspending normal school operations through at least May 4.

GEORGETOWN ISD

Fred Brent, Georgetown Independent School District Superintendent, says that in an effort to help limit the spread of coronavirus/COVID-19 the district will close campus operations through May 4.

LAKE TRAVIS ISD

Lake Travis Independent School District Superintendent of Schools Brad Lancaster, Ed.D. has announced the suspension of all normal school operations for the district through May 4.

HAYS CISD

Normal operations have been suspended until it's safe to return and the district will remain closed through May 3 with a return date possibly on May 4.

PFLUGERVILLE ISD

Officials with Pflugerville Independent School District say schools will be closed through May 3 "in order to help slow the spread of the coronavirus and safeguard the well-being of our students and staff."

LEANDER ISD

Leander Independent School District says it will be suspending normal school operations with the intention to reopen on May 4.

DRIPPING SPRINGS ISD

Dripping Springs Independent School District says that it is suspending normal operations by closing its schools through May 3.

DEL VALLE ISD

Del Valle Independent School District says it has made the decision, per Gov. Abbott's order, until May 3.

HUTTO ISD

Hutto ISD says it will be suspending normal school operations through May 3 with students scheduled to return to school on May 4. All Hutto ISD facilities will be closed for instructions and that also includes UIL events, athletics, rentals, field trips and after-school activities.

MANOR ISD

Manor ISD anticipates it will resume classes on May 4.

TAYLOR ISD

Taylor ISD is suspending normal school operations through May 3 with the intention to reopen on May 4. All facilities will be closed for instruction, including UIL events, athletics, rentals, field trips, and after-school events.
