Scrap pile fire at South Austin recycling facility
AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - Flames tore through a scrap metal recycling facility in South Austin Thursday afternoon.
The fire took place at the CMC recycling location on Industrial Boulevard.
The Austin Fire Department said the fire was isolated to a “trash” or scrap pile.
Those who work in the area describe hearing a loud initial boom, followed by popping sounds and black smoke.
“After a while, it just started smoking like crazy and wooh! You heard a lot of popping noises.” explained Octavio Gomez, who works across the street from CMC.
The fire department said it took crews an hour to extinguish the blaze.
There were no injuries and no monetary damages.
The materials that caught on fire were being recycled.
