BERTRAM, Texas - The cleanup in Bertram is just getting started after several buildings right in the heart of the town were damaged by severe weather late Monday night. Most of the damage happened along North Grange Street right near State Highway 29.
A storm system moved west to east along State Highway 29 through Bertram at around 10 p.m. The powerful winds were described by one of the fire officials as similar to a freight train moving through.
SH 29 is closed in Bertram due to damage to the structures near the highway.
One of the most heavily damaged buildings is the Bertram Blends and Boutique. The side of the business was ripped off and the roof as well but the interior of the building is basically intact.

Crews have moved most of the debris out of the roadway and are working to get traffic lights fixed.
The National Weather Service is expected to be out later today to determine if a tornado touched down in the area or if the damage was caused by straight-line winds.
