After four days with no sign of 13-year-old Jayme Closs, the Barron County Sheriff assembled a team of volunteers to search a 14-mile-long crime scene along Highway 8.

One hundred volunteers gathered in Barron Thursday afternoon. The volunteers were split into groups of seven and will search with law enforcement along Hwy. 8 from Barron to Turtle Lake. Family members are also part of the search.

The searchers looked for anything of "evidentiary value," said a release from Barron County. So far, nothing of evidentiary value has been found in the investigation.

Jayme Closs has been missing since early Monday morning. Her parents were found shot dead in their home along Highway 8 in Barron. Investigators believe Jayme was home at the time of the shooting and believe she is still in danger.

"Always going to be positive," said Jerry Carpenter, a volunteer searcher. "Always a little hope she is still alive. Stay with that right now."

Some searchers were wondering whether investigators now have information suggesting this was the direction a suspect or suspects may have fled with Jayme.

"Devastated," said Laura Cutsforth, who lives in Barron County. "I mean, you feel so sad for the family and scared."

With two people dead and a 13-year-old still missing, this small community of about 3,300 is reeling, trying to remain hopeful and positive.

Carpenter was one searcher who brought a headlamp to the afternoon search, suggesting he's in it for the long haul.

"That's just in case it gets dark out if I am in the woods," he said. "All in."
