A police officer who lost her leg after being hit by a drunk driver is standing again. San Marcos Police Chief Stapp shared a video of Officer Cormier standing up for the first time in physical therapy since she was injured on the job.

In May, Officer Cormier was attending a traffic hazard call on I-35 around 9:45 p.m. when she was struck by an alleged drunk driver. When first responders arrived, they found Cormier with severe life-threatening injuries and rushed her to Seton-Hays Hospital in Kyle where she underwent emergency surgery.

Officer Cormier lost her right leg as a result.

The video was originally shared on Twitter by SMPD Chief Stapp. "Just a little more than two months after losing her leg in a tragic on-duty accident, SMPD Officer Claudia Cormier stood up for the first time since the crash today. She's an inspiration to us all."

Officer Cormier's husband told FOX 7 that it will probably be a year to two years before his wife is back on the force. 58-year-old Neil Sheehan, the alleged drunk driver, has been charged with intoxication assault on a public servant, a second-degree felony, and failure to slow causing serious bodily injury.
