Some parks closed over Memorial Day weekend due to overcrowding

On Sunday (5/24) morning, people lined Lake Austin as groups headed out to have fun on the water.

Robert Marquis was out fishing and said it was the first time he'd been out at the lake in two months. He said he "couldn't find the stripers" but despite his luck he was happy to be back out.

Rules and guidelines are still in place and that's why officials closed down five parks to limit capacity and monitor those out enjoying the day.

By 1 p.m. Ford commons, Pace Bend, and Reimers Ranch had all been closed and by 3 p.m. Arkansas and Mansfield had reached capacity too.

Marquis says he wasn't too concerned. "I think it's relatively safe to come out and enjoy the park."

The parks that were closed Sunday are expected to be open again today but again with capacity limits.
