Fire at South Austin homeless encampment

A fire broke out at a homeless camp shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday evening near Ben White and Bannister Lane. The fire started in the encampment but began spreading into nearby brush.

AUSTIN, Texas - Fire crews responded to a fire at a homeless encampment in south Austin Saturday.

The fire began at a homeless encampment near Bannister and Ben White Boulevard, extending into the surrounding brush.

AFD says the fire is now under control.
