APD gives update on explosion at St. David's
The nature of the explosion is still being investigated. The hospital has closed the garage temporarily.
AUSTIN, Texas - Austin police responded to a bomb hotshot call at St. David's Hospital in central Austin Wednesday evening.
Around 5:23 p.m. on Wednesday, August 9, APD responded to a car fire that was happening in the visitor's parking garage at St. David's Medical Center in the 900 block of East 32nd Street.
When firefighters arrived, they suspected this was not a normal car fire, and that there was something suspicious about the incident. They believed the fire started due to an explosion.
APD and the bomb squad responded shortly after and are investigating the explosion. They are investigating if this was an accident or an intentional act.
38-year-old Raymond L Garner has been taken into custody and is charged with a third-degree felony of Components of Explosives.

The incident is currently under investigation by APD in collaboration with the ATF and the FBI.
APD says the scene is clear and there is no danger to the general public. The hospital has resumed normal operations and all parking garages are open.
