St. David's PICU nurse shares joy through art
AUSTIN, Texas - Ly Truong is a registered nurse at St. David's Children's Hospital in Austin and takes time out of her busy day drawing some of the kid's favorite cartoons on their windows.
"I actually don't tell my patients that I draw on the windows. So, when they come out of the room, and they get really excited to see the characters… I just sit quietly at my desk. This makes me feel really good that there. It makes them happy," said Truong.
Truong says she started doing her wall art back in 2020 when they saw fewer patients come in.
"Some of the nurses actually gave me the idea of because it was just sometimes it would just be me and the nurse on the unit. So I would just draw on my free time while I was there," said Truong.

Truong has drawn beloved characters, from the classics of Sesame Street to the latest trending kids cartoon, like Bluey.
"Yesterday, actually, I had a patient who is leaving. It was her last day. She was waiting for her lunch tray, and mom took her out of the unit, and she got to see all the windows. It was really cute to see her point out all the characters and how she was excited to see all her favorite shows, all the window into these," said Truong.
Truong says she doesn't do this just for the patients but also for the other nurses as they are also dealing with challenging days.
