Study shows Austin is far from the safest city in Texas
AUSTIN, Texas - In a new study, research has determined the safest cities in Texas, and Austin didn't make the top 50.
The study done by Security Baron analyzed FBI rankings of crime rates to find out which cities in Texas are the safest, according to their website. From analyzing different factors, Security Baron was able to rank cities based on a "Safety Score."
According to the list, the safest city in Texas is Kermit, with a rate of 0 violent crimes per 1,000 citizens and a "safety score" of 91.25. In comparison, Dallas came in at 158 on the list with a rate of 7.75 violent crimes per 1,000 citizens and a "safety score" of 63.72.
So where does Austin fall on the list? With a rate of 4 violent crimes per 1,000 citizens and a "safety score" of 66.68, the City of Austin comes in at 140th place! Seeing how the list ends at 193, it seems like Austin has room for improvement.
Wondering what the least safest city in Texas is? Webster is last on the list with a rate of 5 violent crimes per 1,000 citizens but a "safety score" of 36.
