Neither the suspects, nor the Border Patrol agents were hit by the gunfire.

DPS drones captured video of the suspects.

What they're saying:

"The State of Texas will continue to monitor the area closely & use every resource available to prevent transnational threats to our law enforcement partners & the homeland," wrote Lt. Olivarez on social media.

Gov. Greg Abbott sending Texas National Guard troops to border

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is sending hundreds more soldiers from bases in Houston and Fort Worth to the U.S.-Mexico border in the Rio Grande Valley.

The governor’s office says the Texas Tactical Border Force will coordinate with the Border Patrol under the Trump Administration to secure the border.

400 members from the unit will make the trip.

The specialized National Guard unit just completed a training exercise last week on how to repel a surge of migrants trying to cross the border.

The Texas team will apparently fill in gaps on the border until additional federal resources arrive.
