Man in custody following SWAT call out in east Austin
AUSTIN, Texas - A man is in custody following a SWAT call out in east Austin on Thursday, the Austin Police Department said.
Police said on Nov. 30, around 5:57 a.m., the 911 call center received a call about a physical disturbance in a home in the 2400 block of Santa Rita Street. The caller said the disturbance was between a man and a woman.
Officers arrived shortly after. They made contact with the man and woman, and based on the information at the time, police said there was no threat to the community.
During that time, the man barricaded himself inside the home and was possibly armed, police said.
The APD SWAT team and hostage negotiators then made their way to the scene.
At 12:13 p.m., a shot was fired from the home toward the area where officers were.
No one was injured.
Shortly after, hostage negotiators made contact with the man, who then left the home without further incident.
He was taken into custody and was charged with felon in possession of a firearm and family violence. Police said other charges are pending.
The investigation is ongoing.
