AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - It's the official first day of the South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival and Conference. For the next 10 days Austin will be the epicenter of interactive experiences, music, comedy and world premieres of highly anticipated movies.
Now in its 33rd year SXSW started out small and local and has now becomes one of the biggest and most influential gatherings on the planet.
More than 400,000 people (including a lot of celebrities) will come to town and bring in an estimated $350 million to Central Texas.
This year's SXSW kicked off with SXSWedu from March 4-7 but March 8 is the day when it all gets started.
Film, Comedy and Interactive are underway with the Music portion beginning on March 11.
The opening night film for the Film Festival is the Jordan Peele film "Us" and another anticipated event is the "Game of Thrones" Bleed For The Throne activation which HBO is doing in partnership with the American Red Cross.
