AUSTIN, Texas - A Travis County Sheriff's Office detective has been arrested and charged after allegedly sexually assaulting a child.
On Wednesday, June 3, a TCSO child abuse detective responded to a call at Dell Children's Hospital in Austin. According to court documents, the victim made an outcry to her mother that she had been assaulted earlier in the afternoon by 40-year-old Stephen Broderick.

The child's mother immediately took her to the hospital to be evaluated by medical professionals. While at the hospital, the child victim also made an outcry of sexual assault to the Dell Children's Sexual Assualt Nurse Examiner.
The child victim then participated in a Sexual Assualt Forensic Exam (SAFE).
On Friday, June 5, the victim participated in a forensic investigation at the Bastrop County Child Advocacy Center. Her statement corroborated the injury that was documented on the medical notes from SAFE.

Broderick has been arrested and charged with the sexual assault of a child, family violence. TCSO has confirmed that Broderick is a detective with TCSO and has been placed on administrative leave without pay.
He is still in custody in the Travis County Jail.
