AUSTIN, Texas - The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation announced Friday that in order to protect the health and safety of its licensees, employees, and members of the public, it is taking action in response to the coronavirus. The following actions were announced Friday.
TDLR is enacting provisions to authorize licensed barber, cosmetology, driver education, and massage therapy schools to conduct temporary emergency distance education.
All professional and amateur combative sports events licensed by TDLR and scheduled between now and April 30 have been canceled, including Boxing, Mixed Martial Arts and Muay Thai bouts.

Temporary telework procedures for employees whose work can be done remotely will be enacted.
All TDLR licensees are reminded to strictly adhere to all relevant health and sanitation practices and procedures for the protection of the public and to evaluate telemedicine implications to assist in response to COVID-19. In addition, licensees should implement all relevant COVID-19-specific recommendations and directions from state and local health authorities.

The following advisory board meetings are canceled, although TDLR says it is exploring the possibility of holding some meetings by teleconference:
- Architectural Barriers Advisory Committee scheduled for Monday, March 30
- Code Enforcement Officers Advisory Committee scheduled for Thursday, April 9
- Licensed Breeders Advisory Committee scheduled for Monday, April 13
- Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists Advisory Board scheduled for Tuesday, April 14
- Massage Therapy Advisory Board scheduled for Monday, April 20
- Hearing Instrument Fitters and Dispensers Advisory Board scheduled for Monday, April 27
- Midwives Advisory Board scheduled for Wednesday, April 29
- Dietitians Advisory Board scheduled for Thursday, April 30
All TDLR employee non-essential travel to conferences has been canceled and in-person strategic planning town hall meetings that had been previously scheduled in five Texas cities have been canceled as well. TDLR says it is exploring ways to conduct those sessions online.
