Gas prices across Texas keep falling as the supply for gas outpaces its demand, says AAA Texas.

According to AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch, the current statewide gas price average is $2.22 a gallon, 24 cents less than it was this time in 2019.

AAA Texas says that gas prices are typically cheaper this time of the year as drivers tend to travel less.

“Gas prices usually trend lower in January as demand for fuel drops due to colder temperatures and fewer people driving,” said AAA Texas spokesperson Daniel Armbruster. “As demand drops, regional supplies continue to build, which is likely going to force prices lower.”

The national average unleaded gas price currently stands at $2.54 a gallon, 27 cents more than it was this time in 2019.
