Texas Longhorns fans excited for Cotton Bowl after Peach Bowl double-overtime win
AUSTIN, Texas - It was a "peach of a game" for Texas Longhorn fans. Those who couldn't make the trip to Georgia watched from home or headed to a sports bar around town.
Longhorn fans packed the Moontower Saloon in south Austin to watch the school's first-ever College Football Playoff quarterfinal between Texas and Arizona State.
"My wife told me I couldn't yell at the TV at the house, so I came here to yell at the TV at the bar," said Longhorn fan Rick Vasquez.
But in the sea of burnt orange stood a lone Oregon Ducks fan, Doug Bain.
"We're used to that. Living in Austin, you're surrounded. It's a sea of burnt orange. Right. So my team is the Ducks," said Bain.
Bain and his longtime friend Alan Abdine can agree on most things, except their football teams.
"Go Horns," said Abdine.
"Go Ducks," said Baine.
Making Wednesday a big day for both of their teams, with Texas playing Arizona State in the Peach Bowl and Oregon playing Ohio State playing in the Rose Bowl, and a possibility for their teams to meet in the Cotton Bowl.
"I think both teams have a real opportunity here and it's exciting to be part of this, you know, playoff season. Hanging out with my buddy here and having lots of excuses to hang out and celebrate or not or commiserate," said Abdine.
Until then, the two enjoyed the watch party together. However, Oregon's playoff dreams would be cut short, as the Ohio State Buckeyes later won the Rose Bowl, 41-21.

The bar offered Longhorn-themed drinks for the adults and a bounce house and trampoline for the kids.
"The weather was nice and bounce house for the kids. You got to come out and support the team. And yeah, it just seemed like a good fit for us to have the kids ride around while we watch the game," said Longhorn fan Josh Atkins.
"We watch the game, so, yeah, it keeps them entertained for a while. Gets them tired," said Michael Valdez.
As for friends turned rivals: "We were friends for a while, and now we'll see what happens in the next couple of weeks if that friendship sustains itself," said Abdine.
Win or lose, one thing is certain for fans at the Moontower Saloon.
"Hook 'em Horns," said Valdez.
"Hook 'em Horns," says Atkins.
Texas will play in the Cotton Bowl at AT&T Stadium in Arlington against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Jan. 10.
