Texas Workforce Commission to answer unemployment questions
Texas - The Texas Workforce Commission is set to answer your unemployment questions on a Facebook live today at 2:30.
As more Texans face unemployment due to the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak, TFW's Executive Director Ed Serna is looking to answer frequently asked questions regarding unemployment concerns.
“Texas faces a situation unlike any other in modern history, and the solution is we come together – Texans helping Texans,” Serna said. “The Texas Workforce Commission is here to assure that all Texans get all the employment benefits to which they’re entitled. Unemployment Insurance is a promise to Texans and it is a promise we will keep. Our number one priority right now is helping Texans manage this situation.”
Since the coronavirus outbreak, Gov. Greg Abbott has issued a public health disaster, the first in Texas since 1901. The executive orders, which took effect at midnight Friday, March 20 and go through midnight Friday, April 3, will bring the state in line with CDC guidelines to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The public health disaster orders schools to be closed statewide until at least April 3. The disaster also orders a ban on dine-in eating and gathering in groups of more than 10 as the state ramps up efforts to battle the coronavirus. Abbott's order also will shut down gyms and bars. It also bans visits to nursing and retirement homes unless there is a critical need.
