The Community Kitchen at Caritas has served hundreds of thousands of meals in Austin, since 1999. The spokesperson there, says what happened Friday afternoon, is very uncommon.

APD commented Friday afternnon saying, "We got a call about a shooting and stabbing at Caritas at 600 block Neches. When we got here we found one victim with trauma and non-life threatening trauma. Victim was taken to local hospital where they're being treated at this time."

The spokesperson at Caritas, Amy Jackson, says a suspect came in the kitchen Friday, and caused a ruckus. Soon after the situation escalated.

A security guard responded, and their gun accidentally went off.

EMS tweeted a man in his 30s was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Jackson says she couldn't specify who was shot, but believes the weapon going off wasn't intentional.

Caritas released a statement saying, “While this incident was unfortunate and highly unusual, we're thankful it was not worse. The three people involved have been treated and released from a local hospital with minor injuries.”

We're told the third person taken to the hospital happened to get mixed up in the altercation.

Caritas usually closes around 1:30 on Fridays but they closed earlier this Friday because of the scuffle. Monday and Tuesday the kitchen will be shut down, so investigators and staff can review security measures and revisit what happened.

They’re in the process of interviewing witnesses and those involved.

The spokesperson says this is an unfortunate situation, but everyone is expected to be okay.
