AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - Austin police are asking the public for help in tracking down the suspects in the attacks of three women, last month. Information is so limited, according to police, that they're not certain whether these cases are linked but are leaning on the side that they aren’t
APD reports they do not have much to go on for all three cases.
They are rushing the results of DNA tests as they want to make progress on these cases especially before South-By-Southwest starts next week. “I'm asking and seeking all eyes and ears in the community that if they heard anything or saw anything suspicious in the 11000 block of Jollyville to please call us,” said Lieutenant Gena Curtis with the APD sex crimes & domestic violence unit.
On Monday, police say a man sexually assaulted a woman in her home off Jollyville Road. Suspect details limited to medium-build, brown skin with hairy arms. “We need your help we have an aggravated situation here and we want to find out who did this we don't want this to happen to anyone else,” said Lieutenant Curtis.
This isn't the only incident APD needs help with.
There are 3 cases during February where women were attacked and their attackers still unidentified.
One happened February 1st near the Mueller neighborhood. A woman was attacked and forced to the ground, she was able to fight the attacker off. The suspect is described as a Hispanic, light-skinned male about 5 feet 5 inches tall, chubby and dark hair.
Another incident happened the following day off Clayton Lane. A woman was sexually assaulted after a suspect forced his way into her home. He is described as a light skinned, possibly Hispanic man between 30 and 40 years old, and about 5 feet 10 inches tall. “All these are an open investigation that we are working on a daily basis,” said Lieutenant Curtis.
While the suspect description seems similar in all cases, the Austin Police Department believes this is because there just isn't enough information. "I will tell you right now we don't have any reason to believe that it is one individual committing all three but on the same hand I have nothing that tells me it's not right," said Lieutenant Curtis.
APD says tips from the public play a key role in tracking done suspects. If you see something, say something. APD said they expect DNA results to come in the middle of next week.
