A local pet store in Austin is planning on distributing more than 50,000 pounds of donated pet food to 39 Austin-area animal rescues. The food was raised during the pet store's Pound4Pound 2018 food drive.

Every holiday season, Tomlinson's Feed pet store hosts a food drive in support of local animal rescues and shelters. From Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve, each pet food bag donated by customers is doubled by the generous pet food makers, pound for pound.

In 2018, Tomlinson’s Feed Pound4Pound raised 155,218 lbs of donated, high-quality pet food.

"The partnership between Tomlinson's and animal organizations such as the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter is invaluable," Misty Valenta, the shelter's community programs coordinator, said. "The Pound4Pound donations aids our foster families so they can care for more animals in need with less financial burden."

On Friday, April 19, Tomlinson's plans to fill two filled semi-truck loads worth of food that will be distributed to more than 39 Austin-area rescues. The amount is just a fraction of the food officials plan to donate this year. Officials from various rescues — Austin Dog Rescue, Bastrop Animal Shelter, Highland Lakes SPCA, Love-A-Bull, Central Texas SPCA, Texas Humane Heroes, and the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter among them — are scheduled to attend the event.
