If you’re trying to decide on a puppy name, you may want to consider these choices.

In honor of National Puppy Day on March 23, Camp Bow Wow, a dog day care and boarding provider, released its first-ever list of the top puppy names, based on its database of four-legged friends aged 4 months to 1 year.

Luna is top puppy name in 18 states

By the numbers:

Leading the pack in 2025, Luna was ruled as the top puppy name in 18 states, surpassing the next closest contender, Daisy, by nearly 50%.

Second-place Daisy was the most popular name in Kansas, Kentucky and Maine, and third-place Charlie led in Georgia and Illinois.

According to Camp Bow Wow’s Animal Health and Behavioral Expert Erin Askeland, there’s no coincidence that all the top puppy names are two syllables.

She said that short, two-syllable names are helpful in getting a pup’s attention during training and socialization.

"Choosing the perfect name is only the first step in starting pups off on the right paw in life, along with socialization, skill building and enrichment to ensure a healthy and joyful future."
