Tour bus fire shuts down SH130 in Pflugerville for several hours
PFLUGERVILLE, Texas - The Pflugerville Fire Department said a tour bus caught fire on State Highway 130 near Pecan Street Wednesday afternoon. Everyone inside the bus was able to get out safely.
The Pflugerville Fire Department got a call about the bus fire around 3 p.m. “We arrived on scene and the bus was about 50 percent involved,” said Captain Robert Ortiz with the Pflugerville Fire Department.
Firefighters say the Yoguis Tours bus was headed south from Dallas when flames and smoke became visible. Everybody on board was immediately evacuated.
“All occupants were already out of the bus. The bus driver had accounted for everybody and we moved them to safety right away,” Ortiz said.
The cause of the fire is still undetermined although it does appear the fire started in the back of the bus near the engine. Firefighters said the location of the flames was not easy to access.
“It was hard to get to with our crews. Everybody was out and we had to do some cutting inside the bus to actually get down to where the fire had seated itself between the floor board and the engine compartment,” said Ortiz.
First responders collected everyone's belongings and brought it to a nearby hotel where passengers sought temporary shelter. Several lanes of traffic on SH 130 were shut down for hours and traffic was diverted onto the Frontage Road.
