Travis County makes offer to city of Austin over hotel occupancy tax dollars

Voters approved Travis County to use hotel tax dollars to renovate the Expo Center, but now the county says it's having issues getting the conversation started with the city to use that money.

The county has sent an offer letter to the city of Austin, offering the city the Palm School in exchange for ownership of the land the Expo Center sits on and access to the hotel occupancy tax dollars by 2022.

The county has also set a deadline of December 16th on a response from the city about the offer.

"I don't think this specific offer fits all of the needs of the city but we welcome a counter-proposal so that we can begin massaging that transaction so that it is really for the benefit of the city and the county," Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhardt said.
