Travis County sees record breaking turnout for early voting

Early voting for the March Primary election has set records in Travis County this year, and even more people are expected to vote this Tuesday.

The results of Super Tuesday in Texas will impact what happens in the presidential election this November so members of both the Republican and Democratic party are still working get people out and vote.

“We had a record-breaking primary turnout. It is very exciting. We had a little over 90,000 people vote in the primary for 2016 and a little over 80,000 vote in the primary election for 2018,” said Travis County Clerk Dana DeBeauvoir.

According to reports, just over 131,000 people hit the polls for the 2020 primary elections.

“Voters are excited, they're passionate, and some of them feel this pent up demand that they want to vote and we are seeing the turnout that is the result of that,” said DeBeauvoir.

With Super Tuesday right around the corner, both the Democratic and Republican party's are prepared.

Austin City Mayor Steve Adler says its imperative people get out and hit the polls. “In order for us to be able to win this election for Texas, to turn blue, we're really just so close to having that happen, it's all about turn out. You look at the demographics of this state, we should already be a blue state,” said Mayor Adler.

As for the Republican side, Brian Ruddle with the Travis County GOP agrees that whatever political views you have, let your voice be heard.

“If you are upset with what is going on in Travis County or in the United States general vote, you know, on March 3, if you hadn't already early voted, make sure that you're registered for the November election. It is so important that we really change the dynamic,” said Ruddle.

Super Tuesday is March 3rd.
