TV psychic Miss Cleo is dead at 53, reports TMZ.com.
NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - Iconic and controversial television psychic Miss Cleo has died from cancer at the age of 53, reports TMZ.com.
A representative for Youree Harris (Miss Cleo's real name) tells the celebrity gossip site that the popular psychic died Tuesday in hospice care in Palm Beach County, Florida after a long battle with the disease.
Miss Cleo, who was known for her line, 'Call me now for your free reading,' was born in Los Angeles although she spoke with a Jamaican accent during her call-in show.
The pay-per-call service ran from 1997 to 2003.
In 2002, the operators of her psychic hot line agreed to cancel $500 million in customer bills, return all un-cashed checks to customers and pay a $5 million fine.
This came after the Federal Trade Commission alleged that the defendants engaged in deceptive advertising, billing, and collection practices.
