Two more TJJD staff test positive for COVID-19

Two more staff members have tested positive for COVID-19, says the Texas Juvenile Justice Department.

The staff members worked at two different campuses, but both were youth development coaches. One case was confirmed at the Evins Regional Juvenile Center in Edinburg and the other at the Giddings State School.

TJJD says it is identifying any youth or staff at both facilities who may have had contact with the coaches. The youth will receive a COVID-19 test and staff members will be asked to self-isolate following CDC guidelines.

Five cases so far have been confirmed at the Giddings State School and three at the Evins Regional Juvenile Center. According to TJJD, nine staff members have tested positive for COVID-19:

  • 3 at Evins Regional Juvenile Center
  • 1 at Gainesville State School
  • 5 at Giddings State School

The McLennan County State Juvenile Correctional Facility and Ron Jackson State Juvenile Correctional Complex have not seen any positive cases.

All the positive cases, except for one, were youth development coaches. The first case reported was an IT employee at Giddings State School in early April.
