Deadly wreck on US 183 in Leander

Police plan to shut the road down again at 9 a.m. Tuesday to continue their investigation.

LEANDER, Texas - US 183 southbound has reopened after a deadly crash in south Leander.

On Monday, April 15, around 6:12 p.m., police say they responded to a motorcycle vs. vehicle collision with injuries.

The initial investigation shows a Chevorlet van pulled out of Sheila Drive to turn north on US 183 when it was hit on the rear left side by a Honda motorcycle.

Witnesses, police officers and EMS all tried to save the motorcycle rider, but 29-year-old Brendan Kayle Johnson, of Leander, died at the scene.

The driver of the van stayed on scene and spoke with officers. Police say the driver has been cited with failure to yield right of way turning left.

Police are continuing to investigate and reconstruct the crash.
