Wednesday afternoon, officers from Williamson and Travis County escorted Sgt. Chris Kelley's body from the Seton Medical Center Williamson in Round Rock to the Medical Examiner's office in downtown Austin.
The touching procession ended with officers lining the entrance and giving him a final salute.
At the UT Police Department, Captain Don Verett wears the mourning band across his badge.
"He came here from a career from other law enforcement agencies and from the United States Air Force. So, great bearing, great officer, showed great maturity. We really hated to see him leave when he left the department," Verett said.
Captain Verett says Kelley attended UT's Peace Officer Academy and worked with the department from June 2006 to December 2008.
Verett was there during that time and knew Sgt. Kelley.
"We have several officers that have left UTPD that now work for the Hutto Police Department. So definitely there was some concern amongst our staff about here the officer was that had been killed," Verett said.
They soon found out the fallen officer was one of their own.
"It just struck home, I mean anytime you have an officer killed in the line of duty, specifically when it's somebody that you know, it's never a good thing," Verett said.
The Hutto Police Department and Honor Guard will keep watch here and officers will return to escort his body to the funeral home.
UT Police say their Honor Guard will definitely be attending the funeral. And they'll offer their services to the Hutto Police Department to help stand guard up until then.
