NAPLES, Fla. (FOX 13) - Collier County deputies worked together to try to save a driver from a submerged vehicle.
The incident occurred just before midnight Sunday. According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, the agency received several calls of a van traveling recklessly on Golden Gate Boulevard near Collier Boulevard. Deputies searched on the ground and in the air for the van. The aviation unit spotted the van as it traveled west across Collier Boulevard, jumped a curb, and flipped over into the lake.
The agency said its deputies arrived on scene within minute and at least five entered the water, searching for the driver. Deputies said they broke the rear window of the van, which was completely submerged at this point, and pulled the driver out.
They said the driver was unconscious, and deputies began CPR. In aerial footage from the agency’s helicopter, deputies are seen carrying the driver out of the water, who was transported to the hospital.
The cause of the crash is unclear and there is no word on the driver’s condition.
