The non-profit community blood center says it is in desperate need of donations following a series of violent crimes and crashes that have left its blood supply dangerously low.

The low supply could have a serious impact on the 10 counties We Are Blood serves across Central Texas.

Officials say on top of the crimes and crashes they also blame the shortage on bad weather and allergies.

Vice President of Community Engagement Nick Canedo says, "Right now we need especially O Positive and O Negative blood donations. O Negative is what's known as the universal blood type. Meaning a person with any kind of blood type can receive O Negative blood in a transfusion when dealing with a traumatic incident."

Blood donations can be made any of three donor centers: North Lamar, Round Rock and South Austin.

We Are Blood also hosts regular mobile blood drives.
