Loved ones gathered in Weatherford Friday to mourn and remember a firefighter who died while battling wildfires.

Andy Loller was on the job in West Texas when he suffered what appeared to be a heart attack. He died on the way to the hospital in Odessa.

Loller’s funeral was held at Northside Baptist Church. Friends, family and fellow firefighters remembered him as a dedicated firefighter who loved physical fitness and being outdoors.

“Andy loved the outdoors. I’m told that if he had any spare time at all he was out there hunting or fishing or doing something outdoors,” said Ken Hurst, the Parker County Fire Marshal and a good friend of the family.

Hurst said Loller died doing what he was born to do. The 42-year-old served as a firefighter in Hudson Oaks, Texas before moving to Weatherford in 2013.

He is survived by his wife and two children.  The family asked for donations to be made to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
