Police have recovered a rare Steven McQueen tribute Jaguar XKSS that was stolen last month, authorities said.

What we know:

The rare car was reported stolen on Dec. 2, 2024, West Lake Hills police said.

Officers said they were able to track the vehicle to a storage facility in North Austin.

A search warrant for the facility was issued and police were able to recover the vehicle "nearly intact" along with other stolen property on Tuesday.

Jaguar XKSS

The stolen Jaguar was made by Team CJ, an Austin-based automotive company that specializes in the restoration of Jaguars, Lamborghinis, Aston Martins and Ferrari.

According to their website, the custom cars were modeled after the 1956 Jaguar XKSS owned by actor Steve McQueen who starred in films such as "The Thomas Crown Affair (1968)" and "The Great Escape (1963)."

The price for one of the Team CJ models is listed at $625,000.

McQueen's original 1956 Jaguar XKSS is housed at the Peterson Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.

It is one of only 16 made.

What we don't know:

Police have not announced any arrests in connection with the theft.

They're asking anyone with information to contact them at 512-327-1195

What they're saying:

"This investigation required the dedication of our patrol officers, detectives, lieutenant, and administrative staff, all of whom worked diligently to piece together the information that led to the search warrant," West Lake Hills Police Chief Scott Gerdes said. "The successful recovery of this vehicle is a testament to the commitment of our department and the strong collaboration with the multiple local agencies like the Austin Police Department, Travis County Sheriff's Office, and Pflugerville Police Department."

Gerdes used the recovery to remind residents about locking their vehicles.

"Always lock your vehicles, secure valuables, and consider investing in a home security system," Gerdes said.
