Williamson County reaches over 5,000 with Veteran Outreach Initiative

Williamson County's Veteran Outreach Initiative has reached more than 5,213 people across the county.

Since April 1, the Williamson County call center that was created to answer resident's questions about COVID-19 has also been making calls. These outbound calls are "special" one-on-one calls intended to make sure all veterans in the county feel appreciated and acknowledged, a press release from the county stated.

“Our goal is to lift their spirits by providing support and information that can help fulfill any needs,” said Holly Justice, who is currently supervising the call center, “They appreciate hearing a friendly voice checking on them.”

The county says the call center is manned by eight people who aim to make around 300 calls a day. The call center works Monday through Friday and between answering dozens of calls from residents regarding COVID-19, the county employees are also reaching out to county veterans.

“I appreciate Williamson County for showing how important veterans are, that’s what makes this country so great,” said Almas Sami, a disabled Air Force veteran, and former law enforcement officer.

When call center employees reach out, they will either leave a voicemail with information or if they connect with a veteran, they will address any unmet needs the veteran may have.

"More than 5,213 veterans have received a call from Williamson County so far. We estimate that all veterans who live in Williamson County and are on the Williamson County Veterans Services office database will receive a call by next week," the press release stated.

The county says the goal is to serve as a liaison to information on resources that can help fill the veteran's needs.
