December 1 is World AIDS Day. It’s a chance to spread awareness and raise money to fight the disease.
Nearly 37 million people are living with HIV/AIDS across the globe. Scientists are working to come up with a cure or a vaccine for the disease which can be deadly if not properly treated.
Thanks to increased awareness and education, new infection rates have fallen 35 percent in the past 15 years.
Here in the U.S., more than one million people have the virus but one in eight don’t know it. That’s why experts say it’s important to get tested.
AIDS Services of Austin is one of the places you can get tested. For more information you can go their website here or call 512-458-TEST (8378) to make an appointment.
Testing is done throughout the week. It’s free and you can remain anonymous.
