ARLINGTON, Texas - Austin Vandegrift defeated Southlake Carroll 24-17 Saturday afternoon to win the 6A Division 2 championship.
Southlake Carroll scored first but the Dragons would only lead for 34 seconds before Vandegrift tied the game on an 84-yard touchdown pass from Miles Teodecki to George Farley.
The Vipers would score in the second quarter off a 2-yard run from Brendan Fournier and again when Teodecki found Fournier on a 10-yard pass to take a 21-7 lead into halftime.
The Dragons would cut the lead to 7 off a 23-yard pass from Angelo Renda to Brock Boyd in the 3rd quarter.
The defense for both teams for the rest of the 3rd quarter.
Vandegrift would get the ball back with around a minute to play in the third quarter and stretch out a 14 play, 43 yard drive that lasted more than six minutes and end in a field goal to add to the Vipers' lead.
The Dragons would take the ball 87 yards on their next possession with time ticking down in the game.
The Vipers defense would quash the comeback attempt, stopped the Dragons on 4th down with under three minutes to play.
The Dragons would get the ball one last time after a Vipers punt with 43 seconds to play. The would kick a field goal in the final seconds to make the final score 24-17 Vipers.
The Vipers (14-1) got to the championship game with a 34-31 victory over the Summer Creek Bulldogs.
Southlake Carroll is headed to the championship game after a 20-17 victory over Longview. The Dragons are 15-0 on the season.
