USL's Austin Bold FC gets ready for its second season
AUSTIN, Texas - The United Soccer League''s Austin Bold FC is prepping for its second season in the pro level just below Major League Soccer.
Coach Marcelo Serrano returns a lot of last year's playoff squad. It's a squad that earned the Copa Tejas as the state's top USL team.
So it's no wonder there wasn't a lot of turnover.
"We decided to keep 70, 75 percent of the team, that's not very usual," Coach Serrano says. "We have the core group, we brought new players to increase the level, so that's what we aim."
Returning defender/midfielder Amobi Okugo says "it's always great to keep the core, but with that you gotta bring in some new players to spice it up. Keep people on their toes. Keep the competition fresh and with the talent that we brought in it's going to be a great addition to our squad."
One of those additions is Billy Forbes who played in San Antonio last season says for him it "wasn't a lot of adjustment to move in because I just moved in from 45 minutes away and I have a lot of friends here already."
The Bold opens its season at home on March 7.
