Westlake High School Chaps celebrate state championship football title

The Westlake High School Chaps celebrated with a parade after winning the first state championship football title since 1996.

“Its been 23 years. We’ve had a fantastic program, but we finally got over the edge,” said Head Coach Todd Dodge.

Last month, the Chaps were able to play the championship game in Dallas, winning against Denton Guyer High School.

“It's been a month now. I still don't think it's hit me,” said Senior Quarterback Kirkland Michaux.

Michaux led his team on the field and now he is leading his team’s parade. “It's really awesome. For the whole community to come out and kind of show their support towards us, really just kind of shows us how much it meant to them,” said Michaux.

A moment that this team and coach with cherish.

“People don't realize what it means to a coaching staff to take a  team full-cycle from seventh grade all the way through their senior year and then win a state championship with them. It just, it's really, really special,” said Coach Todd.

The team has ordered their championship rings and will celebrate with a banquet.
