Austin weather: Arctic blast to drop temps below freezing. Will we see snow?

Get ready, Austin, the cold is coming!

Freezing temperatures are right around the corner.

Saturday Forecast: Warm and Breezy

What We Know: Saturday is expected to be pretty warm with highs in the upper 60s and low 70s.

For most of the day things will be cloudy, but as we get later into the afternoon we could see a bit more sunshine.

Winds will pick up through the day, with breezes between 5 and 15 miles per hour and gusts around 25 to 30 miles per hour.

There is a 10% chance you could see a stray shower.

Sunday Forecast: Cold front moves through

What We Know: Sunday we will start to see some changes.

We will start the day warm, with temperatures in the low 70s, but then a cold front moves through the area in the afternoon.

Arctic air will filter in throughout the day, causing temperatures to fall.

Monday Forecast: Temperatures expected to fall below freezing

What We Know: By the time you wake up on Monday morning, our temperatures will be below freezing.

Many people in Central Texas will wake up to temperatures in the high 20s and low 30s.

The wind chill will make it feel even colder.

We will climb back above freezing in the afternoon, but the cold air is sticking around for a while.

Will it snow?

What We Know: Reinforcing cold air will keep things cold for most of next week.

What We Don't Know: The big question many are asking is if it will snow or other wintry weather.

The potential for precipitation on Thursday and Friday has been increasing in recent days, but we still don't know if it will be cold enough when the precipitation falls for there to be a wintry mix.

Different models are showing things at this point. Some show us just getting cold rain, others have more of the wintry mix.

We will have a better idea of what to expect in the coming days.
