Austin weather: Cold weather advisory set for midnight
AUSTIN, Texas - A Cold Weather Advisory will be in effect starting at midnight through tomorrow morning (Jan. 6).
The advisory will be in effect from midnight through 10 a.m. Monday and covers all of Central Texas, heading into west Texas towards the border and north and east of our area.
The National Weather Service says the advisory is due to expected wind chills from 12 to 20 degrees in the overnight to early morning hours.
The NWS is also advising Texans to:
- Use caution when traveling outside
- Minimize time outdoors
- Wear appropriate clothing, a hat and gloves
- Make frequent checks on older family, friends and neighbors
- Ensure portable heaters are used correctly
- Bring pets inside and limit outside time
Texans are also reminded to not use generators or grills inside their homes.
