2 violent robbery suspects arrested in Austin, 2 still wanted

Austin police say two violent robbery suspects have been arrested and have been linked to at least one other crime. Two other suspects are still wanted, according to police.

Investigators say police were dispatched to a robbery in progress on Dec. 4, 2024, just before noon at an apartment complex at 6407 Springdale Rd. When they arrived, they spoke to a victim, a witness, and found 9 mm shell casings.

The victim and a witness inside the apartment told police four suspects broke into her apartment. The witness hid in a closet and called her boyfriend to come help her. The boyfriend arrived, and the suspects left after being chased away by the boyfriend.

Police say one of the suspects, 19-year-old Orlen Guillen, fired a pistol at the boyfriend as he was chasing them. The boyfriend was not injured.

The suspects were able to get away before officers arrived.

Police were able to get the license plate number of the vehicle they were in from surveillance video from the parking lot.

The vehicle was spotted and police went to the address linked to the vehicle. The vehicle was linked to Guillen and his mother.

On Dec. 5, Guillen was taken into custody and the vehicle was seized.

Another suspect was identified as 20-year-old Nefi Amed Gomez-Lopez. He was found loitering in the parking lot of the apartment complex. He was caught but not before he tossed a stolen 9mm pistol from his backpack, according to police.

Police say Guillen and Gomez-Lopez gave full confessions.

The expended 9mm shell casing found was linked to a separate residential robbery that happened on Nov. 8, 2024.

Detectives believe there are still two suspects outstanding. Anyone with information is asked to contact the APD Residential Burglary Unit at (512) 974-4941 or via email at APDBurglaryUnit@austintexas.gov.
