$5,000 reward to identify people responsible for assault of same sex couple

A $5,000 reward is being offered for any information that leads to the arrest of the people responsible for a brutal attack in downtown Austin.

Early Saturday morning, Spencer Deehring and Tristan Perry said they left RAIN Nightclub.

While walking to their car, a man passed them and said a homophobic slur.

Spencer said he responded saying, "I’m sorry, I couldn't hear you."

That's when the man called over about four other people who taunted the two as they walked down 3rd Street towards Congress Avenue.

Then, Deehring said, the men started punching and kicking Perry until he was unconscious.

On Tuesday, the Austin Police Department announced they will be investigating the attack as a hate-crime.

The owners of Rain on 4th and Oilcan Harry's are offering the reward. They released a statement Tuesday saying:

Rain on 4th says they've been in contact with Mayor Steve Adler’s office, as well as Police Chief Brian Manley and Assistant Chief Justin Newsom.

Anyone having information concerning the crime is asked to call APD at 512-974-9207 or contact Crime Stoppers at 512-472-TIPS. You may remain anonymous.
