AFD: Fire at South Austin church building was accidental
AUSTIN, Texas - Nearly 75 firefighters were called out in the middle of the night after a fire broke out at a church in South Austin.
The fire was reported just after midnight at the Westoak Woods Baptist Church on West Slaughter near Westgate Boulevard. It happened in a building connected to the church and not inside the sanctuary.
When firefighters first arrived they saw flames shooting through the building so they went into defensive mode because it was too dangerous for them to go inside.
According to AFD, the fire on Slaughter Lane (the church) was ruled accidental and caused by some electrical issues.
Firefighters estimate there was roughly $400,000 in damages.
