AUSTIN, Texas - A pedestrian was struck and killed while crossing I-35 in Northeast Austin on Friday, says the Austin Police Department.
APD says a silver Mercury was traveling southbound in the middle lane of I-35 when a pedestrian, identified as 35-year-old Dawon Jermaine Davis, attempted to cross from the center median to the west side of the highway and was hit just after 2:30 a.m. May 15.
The driver immediately took the next exit and pulled into a gas station to wait for the police. APD says they are cooperating with the investigation, and that driver impairment, speeding, weather or road conditions are not believed to be factors in the crash.
Fire and EMS crews tried to save Davis, but he succumbed to his injuries and died on scene just after 3 a.m.
