The victim, 35-year-old Christopher McWhoter, was transported to the Carl R. Darnall Medical Center in critical condition. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by medical personnel.

Killeen police say the preliminary investigation shows that McWhoter and a male acquaintance were involved in a verbal altercation that became physical. The two men were struggling over a handgun when the gun went off, striking McWhoter.
