Meals on Wheels continues food delivery to elderly during pandemic

While stay-at-home orders have temporarily closed many area businesses, the organization continues its delivery service to homebound older adults in Central Texas.

In order to protect volunteers delivering the food during the pandemic, MOWCTX has changed its delivery frequency and the number of meals clients receive with each delivery.

"In an effort to protect the health of vulnerable program recipients and its volunteers, Meals on Wheels Central Texas has temporarily suspended daily meal deliveries in lieu of clients receiving two weeks’ worth of lunches every other Friday. All home-delivered meal clients have already received enough food to last them through Friday, June 5, and more meals will be coming soon," the service said in a press release.

On Friday, June 5, Meals on Wheels employees will wear protective gear and observe social distancing as they load shelf-stable meals into volunteer cars. The volunteers will then deliver those meals to homebound clients. Volunteers have been asked to wear masks and practice social distancing during meal deliveries. All clients will receive two weeks’ worth of lunches.

MOWCTX is not seeking new volunteers for this delivery.
