Mother of Mike Ramos denounces group using her son's name

The mother of an unarmed man shot to death by an Austin police officer in April is denouncing a group using her son's name.

According to their Facebook page, the Mike Ramos Brigade aims to seek justice for Mike and all victims of police violence, but Brenda Ramos says she wants nothing to do with them.​

In April soon after his death, the Mike Ramos Brigade was formed, quickly picking up followers on social media.​ They post where they'll be protesting on Mike Ramos' behalf, but have also been candid about not always remaining peaceful.​

This is something Brenda Ramos has discussed a few times.​

On Saturday the Mike Ramos Brigade shared a news release on its Facebook page, saying their supporters were the first to be out agitating and protesting against APD who are nothing but quote "invaders and murderers in our communities".​

​On Sunday at the Black Austin rally and march for black lives, Brenda Ramos echoed those same thoughts, denouncing the brigade and saying she doesn't condone the behavior they've been displaying and wants no parts in affiliating her son's name with them.​
